This course introduces students to the biochemical basis of a wide range of clinical conditions and the application to health care. The course will focus on biochemical processes and how abnormal processes and metabolic changes can result in pathologic states. The knowledge from this course is fundamental for the implementation of appropriate nursing intervention.

This is a lecture and a laboratory based course. The lectures provide the theoretical background and draw heavily on information presented in the textbook. The laboratories give the student practical experience in observation and experimentation on topics associated with lecture materials. Several tests and quizzes covering materials presented in both lectures and laboratories will be given to encourage the student to master the materials presented.
